Lunch Break
Maya Witt is nineteen, happy, and, apparently, has very strong feelings on caldeirada. Sam just licks the saltiness from his lips and hangs on her every word and tries his hardest not to kill her.
She isn't unbearable; Sam finds that he truly likes her. Maya is as innocent and honest as they that still breathe come in New Kaddar. She's proof that even the roughest cities can't grind up every bit of goodness that's given to them. And also proof that, given time, they can. She's hazy and withering. Changing.
Sam smiles and doesn't kill her. Nobody should die at lunchtime.
