There are days like this: Lysander comes home laughing, sweeping her into a complicated dance that only they know before dipping her, staring at her with sharp, too hot eyes, and if Holly were to strip down to her bones she knows, through his eyes, that Lysander would find no surprises, and nothing to make him want her less.
"Are the children sleeping?" he murmurs against Holly's ear, and she says nothing, just kisses his jaw and leads him to bed.
She never asks what brings him home to her eager. This kind of mood never strikes Lysander on good news days.
